SCHOOLS' PROJECT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long are the workshops?

The Powerpoint anti crime workshop runs for 60 to 70 minutes and the STD awareness workshop runs for 45 to 50 minutes so we recommend that a double period is made available to allow for movement time between classes, student settling time and questions and answers.

What age group is it aimed at?

The workshop is suitable for Year 5 and above although we would refer you to the 'Check List For Your School' page on this website.

How early can you start?

Experience has taught us that travel during rush hours often leads to delayed arrivals at venues.  For this reason, our workshops never begin before 11:00am.   However, we will arrive at the venue around one hour in advance of the start time in order to set up our equipment and run our usual pre-workshop checks.

What equipment do we need to provide?

We bring everything necessary to deliver the workshop.  However, it would be extremely helpful if the venue had a large presentation screen in order that the students can see our Powerpoint slides clearly.

How do we introduce you?

In order to save time, we suggest that a very brief introduction is made.  For example, 'This is Ian from Outside Chance and he will tell you exactly why he is here today'.  No lengthy introductions please as time is paramount.

Do you offer any follow up advice or information?

Sadly, due to time constraints, we don't offer any follow up information.  However, we are prepared to stay beyond the workshop running time in order to answer questions which students may have following the presentation they have just seen.  We are happy to stay into the lunch hour or beyond the closing time if students have any 1-2-1 questions.  In such cases, we insist that a teacher and/or a responsible adult remains with us until the students have left the venue.  We have also been requested to address Parent/Teacher Evenings where parents have approached schools following our workshops, asking for more information about what we do.  An additional modest fee is payable for these presentations.  We are also happy to respond to emails directly from students which should be sent to our office at ianoutsidechance@aol.com

Do you offer any other workshops?

We are currently working on a 45 minute anti bullying workshop in response to both requests from schools and the growing problem of bullying in all its forms - racist, sexist, homophobic and emotional.  We anticipate that this module will be available from September 2009.
