What mattress is better than Saatva?
Founded in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer high-end mattresses under 3 brand names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils provide the Saatva Classic a good amount of bounce near the top, and a luxurious top adds softness. As with all of the Saatva Business’s mattresses, the Saatva Classic is provided by movers, rather than in a box.

Keep in mind: Saatva recently upgraded the Zenhaven, changing the type of latex used in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now includes Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; learn more about the distinctions below. We plan to check the new version quickly and will update this guide with our impressions.
The all-foam Zenhaven consists mostly of latex, which is intrinsically long lasting. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the Luxury Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Company side feels a bit firmer), which may prove valuable if you’re not exactly sure what you prefer or if your needs change with time. This is not a traditionally cushy mattress, however it provides a supple cushion, good edge support, and a subtle springiness. Provided its innate toughness, the Zenhaven should work well for individuals who weigh more than 200 pounds.

These bed mattress were also evaluated in our group tests carried out for Wirecutter’s guides to the finest foam mattresses and the best innerspring mattresses. As Wirecutter’s senior staff writer for sleep, I’ve interviewed scores of specialists in the bed mattress industry and in materials science; visited lots of mattress stores, factories, and showrooms; and read the small print on specifications, service warranties, and return policies. Most recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley assessed the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her house for a number of weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “eco-friendly” brands. However we do understand that the company utilizes thistle pulp or natural wool as a flame retardant (as opposed to fiberglass or chemicals) and just natural cotton (instead of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress companies, Saatva promotes such additionals as zoned layers for “optimal spine support”; we’re less satisfied with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive client service and resilient foams and coils.
